Da ist was in ihrer Stimme, was mich sofort fasziniert hat. Die kanadische Songwriterin JENNY KERN aus New York feiert am Freitag ihr Debüt auf der großen Musikbühne. Ich möchte sie dabei begleiten und euch vorstellen. Ihre Debüt EP ist eine Sammlung von unglaublich persönlichen Songs, die sofort unter die Haut gehen. Jenny kommt von der ersten Sekunde an, authentisch rüber, ich kauf ihr alles ab. Man merkt ihren Songs an, dass sie schon einiges erlebt und durchgemacht hat.

Der Opener ‚Build A Bridge‘ handelt von Beziehungen und wie diese in die Brüche gehen, wenn man sich nicht gegenseitig unterstützt. ‚Let’s build a bridge and meet somewhere in the middle‘ steht über allem. ‚Things will get better‘. Jeder der 4 Songs hat einen ganz besondere Melodie bekommen, die Stimmung erinnert mich an den Film ‚Stadt der Engel‘.

Der emotionalste Song ist auch der dunkelste Song auf der Platte. ‚Old Friend‘ zeigt auch wie genial Jenny Kern ist. Dazu sagt sie: „I wrote this song about a friend who was going through a very tough depression. She was constantly scared of opening up and facing the pain that she felt. This song unfolds in the way that she, and how many people, feel when they want to fight their way out of depression. It’s an intense and grueling process. So it starts of soft and the breaks out into the electric at the end. I am very inspired by Fleetwood Mac and wanted to pay tribute to that with the guitar solos.“
